Digital SAT Score Calculator — Module Math, Made Visible

Who this is for: For anyone staring at a Bluebook practice score wondering how 49/54 became a 710 — module math and curve mechanics, shown step by step.

Module-aware scoring for the adaptive Digital SAT — see the easy/hard Module 2 path and how curves shift by test date.

Quick answer: The Digital SAT routes each section through two adaptive modules — 27+27 raw for R/W, 22+22 for Math, 200–800 each. Module 1 decides the route; the hard route is the only path to 600+. Enter both modules below and see your scaled estimate with its honest ±20 range.

Routing thresholds are not published; the route reads use ~85% / 70% Module 1 accuracy as engineering approximations from practice-data consensus. A hard-route Module 2 feels brutal by design — that's the path to 600+ section scores.
Module 1 decides the route; the range is the curve. Bluebook practice forms each convert a little differently.

Raw-to-scaled curves are re-equilibrated every administration — this engine shows a representative conversion plus a range, so treat it as planning-grade, not an official score report.

How is the Digital SAT scored?

Each section runs two modules. Module 1 is mixed difficulty; your performance routes you to a harder or easier Module 2, and the harder route is the only path to the top scores (roughly 600+ per section). Within each section the raw points are simple — R/W 27+27=54, Math 22+22=44 — but the conversion is adaptive: the same R/W raw score maps differently depending on which Module 2 you saw. This calculator lets you enter each module separately, shows the representative scaled score with its range (52/54 R/W ≈750, range 730–770), and explains the mechanics: why Module 1 matters more than its question count suggests, why a hard-route 44/54 can out-score an easy-route 47/54, and why ±20 points per section is the honest uncertainty band until the College Board publishes your official score.

Common uses

  • Scoring Bluebook practice tests module by module
  • Understanding whether you were routed easy or hard in Module 2
  • Setting module-level goals (e.g. drop 3 in R/W Module 1, gain 30 scaled)
  • Explaining adaptive scoring to parents or students in plain numbers

Frequently Asked Questions

How does adaptive scoring work on the Digital SAT?
Module 1 of each section counts 27 (R/W) or 22 (Math) questions. Score well and Module 2 serves the harder set — which carries the high-end scaled points. Miss the Module 1 threshold and the easier Module 2 caps your section score around the low-to-mid 600s even with a near-perfect Module 2. The calculator labels each module's input so you can see where the points actually live.
What is a good Module 1 score?
Aim to miss no more than 4–6 questions in R/W Module 1 and 3–4 in Math Module 1 to stay on the harder route. The exact routing threshold isn't published, but practice data consistently shows high Module 1 accuracy → hard Module 2 → access to 700+ section scores.
Can the easier Module 2 still reach 800?
No — the easier route tops out in the mid-600s per section in representative scoring tables. If you were routed easy and still scored high on it, your next practice test should focus on Module 1 accuracy, because that's where the route decision happens.
Why do two practice tests give me different scores for the same raw count?
Each form is equilibrated independently. Bluebook's published practice tests convert 50/54 R/W anywhere from about 700 to 740 depending on the test. That spread is the ±20 range this calculator shows — treat single-point estimates from any free tool as theater, and the range as the real answer.
Does the Digital SAT still use 200–800 per section?
Yes. R/W and Math each scale 200–800, total 400–1600, same as the paper SAT. What changed is the path: two adaptive modules per section instead of fixed subsections.
Is this calculator affiliated with the College Board?
No. SatCalcs is an independent tool site. Conversions follow published practice-test ranges and public scoring documentation, with ranges shown wherever the official curve isn't public.
